At WWDC Apple has shown us what iOS 6 will provide us.

New features:

  • New Maps App – A beautiful new Maps app. Apple have got rid of Google Maps and now have their own Maps application, much like the latest Google Maps app but this seems smoother and better visuals. The Maps are 3D and cities look amazing.
  • Passbook – Your new home for boarding passes, cards and coupons. You can pay for your Starbucks coffee with your Starbucks card in this app and it will provide flight updates for you flight.
  • New Siri – Now on the new iPad, new iPad only, sorry older generations. You can now ask her about Sports, Restaurants, Movies and more. Also you can use her to open apps and post Facebook updates and tweet for you.
  • Eyes Free –
  • Facebook Integration – Just like with Twitter you can now post everything to Facebook, you can even ‘Like’ Apps and Songs in iTunes and the App Store.
  • New Phone Features – Just like the camera icon on the lock screen when you get a phone call there is a phone icon in the bottom right hand corner of the lock screen. When you swipe this up you get the option of ‘Reply with Message’ or ‘Remind Me Later’. After you tap one of them you get more options. It can remind you when you leave your current location, when you get home, to work, etc. ‘Do Not Disturb’, a new addition to settings, suppresses all incoming calls and notifications.
  • FaceTime over celluar – Just as the title says.
  • Safari – iCloud Tabs, full screen in landscape and Offline Reading List.
  • Mail Improvements – Add photos and videos to emails in just a few taps and there is a new VIP section where email from VIPs will go.

There are many new features coming to Mac OS X Mountain Lion, they only looked at 8 key features in the keynote today. Here they are:

  •   iCloud – Messages, previously a beta is no official and is essentially iMessage for Mac. Users can reply to messages they receive on their phone, from their Mac. Reminders is also included. The Notes app is making a debut on the Mac which supports images and links. Documents in the Cloud is also happening for Pages, Keynote, Numbers, Preview and TextEdit. You can change a Pages document on your iPhone, 5 seconds later and boom the change appears on your Mac.
  • Notification Center – Just like on iOS but now with a two finger swipe to the right and not a swipe down.
  •  Twitter integration – You can now Tweet just about anything, and Facebook it.
  •  Dictation – This goes hand in hand with the new dual microphones on the new MacBook Pro. Again just like in iOS, dictation comes to your Mac.
  • Sharing – You can now share just about anything with just about anyone.
  • Safari – Now with unified search filed in the URL bar, much like Chrome. iCloud tabs is new.Click it on your Mac and pick up browsing where you left off on your iPhone.
  • New feature: Power Nap – Your mac will now update itself and sync itself when it’s offline. When it’s charging it’ll backup itself!
  • AirPlay Mirroring – Put your Mac screen on you HDTV, wirelessly via Apple TV.

Apple Online Store Down Ahead of WWDC

The Apple Online Store has been taken down ahead of the WWDC 2012 event which is now just hours away. This normally happens before Apple events and when it is back online it will likely feature many new Macs and lots of new artwork for iOS 6 and Mountain Lion.

What can we can expect at WWDC 2012?

iOS 6

This is a certain. Apple have put up banners at the Moscone West centre, where the event will be held showing the iOS 6 app icon. What is iOS 6 going to include? Well Apple is going to focus on updating its stock applications which will come as a welcome and needed change. Hopefully it looks different slightly as a new and fresh design is also wanted by many and widgets of some sort would be great. Apple will get rid of Google Maps and have their own version which will include 3D maps, Siri should come for iPad and Facebook integration, just like Twitter.

OS X Mountain Lion

Again Apple have put up banners to let us know that they will be showing Mountain Lion at WWDC. This latest update to the Operating System for Macs tries to incorporate many iOS features and apps into the desktop and laptop software. What we’ve already seen from Mountain Lion is Notifications Center, Notes Application, Reminders application, Messages – a replacement for iChat and like the iOS app, Share sheets, not taken from iOS but it essentially allows you to share everything, everywhere. The last app taken from iOS is Game Center but also Twitter gets integration into Mac OS X just like it has in iOS. Gatekeeper allows you to control your security on your Mac more. AirPlay mirroring allows you to, if you have an Apple TV, stream you Mac screen to your TV wirelessly and of course everything application is synced perfectly with iCloud to allow you to have a seamless experience between your Mac and your iOS device. Also Safari 6 will make an appearance.

New Macbook Pros

New Macbook Pros are extremely likely. We are expecting thinner, lighter Macbook Pros which have a Retina Display, 3 USB 3.0 ports, no optical drive and no ethernet port.

There will be no 17″ model and courtesy of 9to5mac.com these will probably be the specs:

  • 13.3 inch: 2.5GHz dual core processor, 4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive
  • 13.3 inch: 2.9GHz dual core processor, 8GB of RAM, 750GB hard drive
  • 15.4 inch: 2.3GHz quad core processor, 4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive
  • 15.4 inch: 2.6GHz quad core processor, 8GB of RAM, 750GB hard drive (BTO upgrades to 2.7GHz quad core and 1TB HD will be available)

New iMacs

Probably nothing special, just a routine upgrade with better specs for the price, maybe a Retina Display.

New Mac Pros

An update to the Mac Pro has been coming since it has not been updated for two years. The time between updates for the Mac Pro is getting longer which may suggest that Apple are slowly phasing out the Mac Pro, but not yet. Three new models of the Mac Pro will be released, two normal, one a server configuration.

  • Normal configuration: 3.2GHz quad-core processor, 6GB of RAM, 1TB hard drive, and the ATI Radeon 5770 graphics chip.
  • Normal configuration: 2.4GHz 12-core processor, 12GB of RAM, 1TB hard drive, and the ATI Radeon 5770 graphics chip.
  • Server configuration: 3.2GHz quad-core processor, 8GB of RAM, Two 1TB hard drives

What we’re not gonna see:

“New” iPhone / iPhone 5

There have been many rumours flying around recently about the iPhone 5, primarily about the design of phone. WWDC has been traditionally where Apple unveil its next generation iPhone but that tradition was broken last year when they released the iPhone 4S in Autumn last year and that seems like the date for the next iPhone. Check out this video below to see what maybe the iPhone 5:

This could just be a mockup made by etradesupply to get some attention but it does tie in with an earlier image leaked of the supposed iPhone 5 back panel from 9to5mac.com.

iPad Mini

We don’t even know if Apple is going to release this even though they probably have 7″ iPads in the top offices.

Apple Television Set

The elusive Apple Television Set has had no confirmation apart from Steve Jobs saying that they were working on one. Now is not the time for Apple to unveil this beast. Great concept below though:

New iPods

An update to the iPod range usually occurs in September or October, around the time of the iPhone release. Maybe Apple has swapped over the release dates of the iPhone and the iPods but it is unlikely. They are not in dire need of an update so Apple will not supply one at the moment.

Happy Birthday Dear iPhone…

…Happy Birthday to you!

It is the iPhone’s 4th Birthday, awww a toddler yet dominating the world(Stewie Griffin?). June 29th 2007.

From that day it has bombarded and really created of what we now know is the smartphone market. Without the original iPhone there probably would not be what great range of smartphones we have today with one winner.

Happy Birthday!

We wait a little longer but get 2 iPhones?

An analyst is predicting two iPhones which Apple will release. One being the 4s, one being the 5. They may sell the 4S unlocked for $350 with the 5 being roughly the same price as the current iPhone 4.

The 4S would be just an internal hardware upgrade. This would include the A5 processor, better graphics and more RAM. Whereas the iPhone 5 would include a (probably) different external hardware(different look), 8MP camera-1080p video, and aluminium back and whatever else Apple joys us with.

Whether the iPhone 5 will be released in 2011 or 2012 that is unknown but we may see two new iPhones, one being more affordable.

Xbox 360 games coming to your iPhone?

A project entitled ExEn should allow developers to port Xbox 360 games to iOS.

Andrew Russel is creating open source software which will allow Xbox 360(XNA) games to be ported on iOS, Silverlight and soon Android and OSX. Developers who have made games for Xbox 360, Windows or Windows Phone 7 using the XNA framework will be able to port them to the iPhone, iPad and the others.

If developers do this then that means that there will be some great games coming for the iPhone and iPad.

iPhone Auto-tilt correction for your photos?

Apple has recently filed a patent for an auto correction system for tilt in your photos on the iPhone. The patent is named “Image capture device having tilt and/or perspective correction”. It would use a combination of the iPhone’s sensors, gyroscope, accelerometer and compass to automatically correct any tilt issues which happened in the photo.

Picture form Cnet.

This is a common problem when taking photos and this solution in theory would work. This would work for when you are editing your photo or as you are taking it. The iPhone is Flickr’s most used smart phone when uploading images to the site. So the iPhone has a popular camera and with one of Apple’s 10 best features of iOS5 being camera improvements they are clearly not forgetting about the camera.

iPhone 5 for September?

Latest iPhone 5 rumours are that the iPhone 5 will be launched in September. This is a different launch date to the previous post(see here) but an August press event could still be likely. From this press event we may also see an Apple TV set(actual TV not just the box) which would incorporate iCloud.

These latest iPhone 5 rumours have been said by a China Mobile Employee. According to BoyGeniusReport, a employee of China Mobile has accidentally said something which went along the lines of ‘the iPhone 5 will launch in September’ on a website which is similar to Twitter. There have been sightings Apple employees going into China Mobile.

Below is a picture of the iPhone 5 created by the guys at TechnoBuffalo.
